We are pleased to announce the addition of Victoria Young to our Network Team. Victoria joins SmartSky as a Senior Program Manager, skilled in managing cross-functional teams and programs. We sat down with Victoria for our next installment of Fast Five to learn more about her background, why she's in the aviation industry, and to learn a fun fact!
What led you to the aviation industry?
The opportunity to bring my telecom experience to aviation to create something new and exciting.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A teacher – my teachers encouraged me to be the very best that I could be and I wanted to pass that along to the next generation. I actually started my career in training at the US Department of Commerce.
Can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader? Maybe someone who has been a mentor to you? Why and how did this person impact your life?
My younger sister had a childhood disease which rendered her wheelchair bound. However, she never let her physical ability inhibit her from chasing her dreams. She had a tremendous spirit and a wonderful positive outlook on life which has inspired me to realize that any obstacle can be overcome.
What is the best career advice you have been given?
Follow your passion – if you can make a living doing what you love your life will that much more fulfilled.
What’s a fun fact about you most people don’t know about you?
I was a competitive swimmer growing up in Massachusetts and earned 3 Boston Globe All Scholastic awards. This means that I still have 3 plaques in my house with my picture on them and my kids think that my hairstyles were quite funny – personally I can't believe I left the house looking like that!
