We are pleased to announce the addition of Michael Toedtli to our Apps & Services Team. Mike will be responsible for driving business relationships to make Skytelligence an industry standard framework for connecting apps & services to various algorithms and data sources. We sat down with Mike for our first installment of Fast Five to learn more about what motivates him, why he's in the aviation industry, and to learn a fun fact!

On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, select Business Aviation editors participated in a demonstration of SmartSky 4G LTE in Melbourne, FL.

The Wings of Freedom tour has not stopped in Raleigh in 20 years, but it is making an appearance in the Triangle this weekend. We took some time this afternoon to head over and capture some of the buzz.

We were pleased to exhibit at the National Business Aviation Association Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) for our fourth year! This show has long served as the hub of innovation and creativity within the Business Aviation Industry. This year, NBAA-BACE celebrated it's 70th anniversary in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the second year, SmartSky exhibited at the Airline Passenger Experience EXPO (APEX EXPO) as a Diamond Sponsor. This year's EXPO was held at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California.

The SmartSky Networks team successfully completed a demonstration flight of the world's first 4G LTE airborne network at Duncan Aviation in Lincoln, Nebraska last week. Eric Brooks, VP Product Management, took part in the demonstration flight. 

SmartSky's Senior Vice President of Digital Aviation, James Ladd, has been selected to participate on the 2018 Global Connected Aircraft Advisory Board.

The Global Connected Aircraft Summit provides airlines, operators, integrators, and technology vendors complete connected solutions – from ground to air and from nose to tail. The Advisory Board is composed of the industry’s most forward thinking leaders. Their main responsibility is to guide the Summit to cover relevant content that will connect business, technology, and industry perspectives that will go beyond just in-flight entertainment to include operations, communications and technologies that impact the aircraft.

I think that the Board needs to be more diverse, representing more of the various types of businesses of our members.  As a Board member, I would bring a broad range of experience in our industry, having worked in both the airline and vendor communities, managed IFEC hardware and IFE content, managed inflight entertainment and inflight connectivity programs, developed customer products for both airplanes and airports, and previously serving on the Board, as President and Board member, representing both airline and vendor companies.
